Appeals court upholds conviction for security guard shooter, Augustine to serve his 11-years
#TurksandCaicos, April 27, 2018 – Providenciales – It was back to jail for Samuel Augustine who was in May 2016 was convicted of robbery and wounding in the case of a vicious security guard shooting at a ScotiaBank ATM.
Calvin Lightbourne was seriously injured in the incident which unraveled on May 14, 2015. Police had reported this about the crime, “On that night, the complainant stated that around 7:30 PM he went to Scotia Bank located on the Leeward Highway to make a night deposit at the Automated Teller Machine. Upon arrival at the location and exit his vehicle, he was approached by two masked men who were shooting at him. As a result of getting shot several times about his body, the bag which contained an undisclosed amount of cash fell to the ground as he ran for cover. The culprits took the bag of money and ran off into the nearby bushes.”
Augustine was said to have been greatly distraught by the outcome on Wednesday of his appeal. The appellate court was considering his application to overturn the conviction, instead it was upheld and the arguments deemed to not be “strong or sufficiently material enough to render the conviction unsafe and unsatisfactory.”
Augustine was sentenced to 11-years for the crime by Justice Joan Joyner.
