TCI: Another Strike, Community College students protest at Parliament Session

#TurksandCaicos, March 27, 2018 – Grand Turk – Students have for two days now been involved in some sort of demonstration citing as among the reasons, no running water leaving restrooms inoperable at the Community College Grand Turk campus.  It is the third such industrial action taken this month and the second for Grand Turk in mere days.

It seems that despite consistent reports of government revenue surpluses, public workers and public institutions are frustrated by persistent problems and inhumane conditions.  Today, as Parliamentarians convene for country business, the students of the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College are standing in solidarity in the hopes of getting Government to pay immediate attention to their plight.

One placard on Monday read, “Stop the crap so that we can take a crap! TCICC needs running water.”

Magnetic Media contacted the College and was told “the Education Minister, Karen Malcolm would address the situation directly.”

We first contacted the Minister on Monday morning, there was no reply all day.  Magnetic Media also tried getting a report or comment from the Infrastructure Minister, Goldray Ewing, who also had no response all day.

It was known by many that the public protest would happen today.  Photos are coming in and the students are positioned just across the street from the NJS Francis Building with placards calling for a fix of their water woes and the requisite lecturers to properly deliver on the educational promise students are paying for.

We will continue to follow this developing story.
