#Bahamas, March 29, 2018 – Exuma – The 83rd Annual session of the Exuma District Convention of the Bahamas Baptist Union of churches came to an exciting close on March 25th on the island of Exuma.

The sessions, which were held at the Mt. Herman Union Baptist Church in Mt. Zion, featured speakers and lecturers from through the length and breadth of the island, and also from New Providence and Long Island. Under the theme “Arise and Shine”, using the scripture taken from Isaiah 60: 1-2, numerous delegates from the fore-mentioned islands attended the five-day sessions from March 21st thru 25th. Although it was a time to rekindle friendships and great fellowship, the main focus of the sessions remained to enhance the spirituality within the Body of Christ and to lead and point individuals to the way of the cross.

Superintendent of The Bahamas Baptist Union, Reverend Wilton McKenzie brought the closing sermon on Sunday.  He spoke on the theme and encouraged the congregation to make a difference in their communities by being disciples for Christ.  He admonish them to become shining examples and represent the Kingdom of God.

Officers of the various departments of the convention were elected to serve for a three-year period until 2021.  Pastor Lynden Clarke serves as president of the Parent Body, Minister Melda Ferguson leads the Women’s Department and Brother Bradley Clarke is in charge of the Youth Department.

The Exuma District Convention comprises a total of 16 Baptist churches on the island.  Established in 1935 by the late Reverend Enoch Backford Snr., the convention has had its share of great leaders over the years. Brother Alpheaus Smith served as the first President, and Reverend Lynden Clarke is the current leader, having succeeded Reverend Adam Brown in 2016.
