#TurksandCaicos, February 9, 2018 – Providenciales – Premier Hon. Sharlene Cartwright Robinson and Minister of Tourism Hon. Ralph Higgs witnessed the commencement of the first major Port Authority project of 2018 at Bellfield Landing in North Caicos on Thursday February 1.

The channel lighting and demarcation project will encompass the demarcation of the main shipping channel serving North Caicos, Parrot and Dellis Cay and will allow mariners to safely navigate the channel after nightfall.  The project was much needed as the channel is a lifeline to the islands that rely solely on maritime transport for the movement of passengers and inbound/outbound cargo.

The Premier, who is the Minister responsible for the TCI Ports Authority, toured the dock and met with Project Superintendent, Albert Higgs of Unlimited Construction who explained the timelines and installation process.  Mr. Higgs who is also an accomplished mariner, explained the installation of the 28 Solar powered navigational lights, which is scheduled for completion during the month of February providing there are no unexpected delays.

Public Works Department is providing technical assistance for the project. Chairman Devon Williams and Senior PSFO Walter Hanchell represented the TCI Ports Authority.  A formal commissioning exercise will take place upon project completion.
