TCI: Sabrina Williams appointed as new Deputy Chief Statistician

#TurksandCaicos, January 13, 2018 – Providenciales – The Turks and Caicos Government is pleased to congratulate Ms. Sabrina Williams on her appointment as Deputy Chief Statistician within the Ministry of Finance, Investment and Trade.   Ms. Williams joined the Turks and Caicos Islands civil service in 2009 in the capacity of a Statistical Technician and has since worked her way up the ranks of Statistician and now Deputy Chief Statistician within the Statistics Department.

She holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Studies (Hons.) from the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree by distance in Business Administration specializing in Finance from Heriot Watt, Edinburgh School of Business.

During her tenure in the department Ms. Williams has had the opportunity to attend a number of workshops and training programs focusing on the area of statistics and has been instrumental in the production of GDP statistics, the Vital Statistics Report and the country’s first Balance of Payments Report.

Commenting on the new Deputy Chief Statistician’s appointment, Director of the department Mr. Shirlen Forbes had this to say; “Sabrina has been instrumental in the development of the Statistics Department over the years and has never backed down from a challenge!  She has been instrumental in ensuring that new members of staff are properly trained and in helping to identify and develop different areas of Statistics.  I have no doubt that she will do well in this new capacity and wish to congratulate her.”

Deputy Governor Anya Williams joined the Director in congratulating Ms. Williams on her appointment and also offered words of thanks and congratulations to Mr. Forbes and his team on the work that they are doing; “I join Mr. Forbes in congratulating Ms. Sabrina Williams on her new appointment and would like to commend her on the stellar work that she has been doing over the years.   Ms. Williams joined the department as a junior technician and through the leadership and guidance of Mr. Shirlen Forbes had the opportunity to pursue several training and other programs that helped to position her where she is today.   I commend Mr. Forbes and his entire team on the work that they are doing and would like to wish them well as they seek to keep us informed on vital information in the Turks and Caicos Islands.”

Ms. Williams in expressing her thanks said; “I am indeed grateful for the opportunity presented to me to serve my Ministry and by extension my country in such a role as this and I would like to say thank you to members of the Ministry of Finance, your frank advice and earnest support have been significant factors in my development. I look forward to the new challenges and opportunities for growth that this position will afford me as I remain humble and continue to put ‘service above self’.”
