TCI: Environmental Health Department Mosquito Prevention Public Notice

#TurksandCaicos, January 11, 2018 – Providenciales – Due to the recent and continuous rainfall throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Environmental Health Department and Ministry of Health, Agriculture and Human Services would like to remind the general public to inspect, remove, and or treat mosquito breeding sites including tires, bottles, cans, gutters, tree stumps, pets’ bowls, flower pots, etc.

The Environmental Health Department Vector Control Unit continues to monitor and treat mosquito breeding sites, likewise homeowners, landlords (apartments and business owners) are requested to treat standing water on their premises by using cooking oil or any other environmentally safe oils to prevent mosquito breeding.  The general public is asked to ensure that water catchments are covered, and, any other containers that are not being used for water catchment purposes should be emptied and turned over in order to prevent mosquito breeding.

In addition to the taking these preventative measures, the general public is encouraged to continue to discourage the growth and reproduction of mosquitoes by the removal of debris from their premises which will help to reduce mosquito breeding and the prevention of mosquito borne and other vector borne diseases such as Zika virus, Chikungunya and Dengue fever.
