Tornado touches down at Abaco airport in severe weekend weather

#Bahamas, December 14, 2017 – Abaco – No injuries in a tornado which happened in Abaco at the Treasure Cay airport. The damages from the incident over the weekend are described as extensive, with the North Abaco Administrator, Tereece Bootle telling media that chairs, tents, vendor stalls and the tarmac were affected by the twister.

There had been several severe weather alerts issued over the weekend for the northwest Bahamas, but the Abaco residents were not expecting anything like a tornado to touch down. The weather event did frighten people, who were hopeful that the end of the hurricane season for 2017 also meant the end of surprise, dangerous weather phenomenon but it did not impact airport operations said the Administrator.
