RBDF Apprehends Immigrants from a landed Haitian Sloop

#Bahamas, December 11, 2017 – Nassau – The Royal Bahamas Defence Force received information that a Haitian sailing sloop had landed near Commonwealth Brewery, approximately 3 nautical miles from Coral Harbour, around 7 a.m. this morning from the Police Control Room.

Upon arriving in the area, the Defence Force launched searches of the area and were assisted by members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force and Immigration.   A total of 57 migrants consisting of 43 Men, 11 women and 3 children were apprehended in the immediate area.   The migrants have been handed over to Immigration for further processing

Total undocumented migrants apprehended by the Defence Force for the year is approximately 1,100; half of these apprehensions were made jointly with local Immigration and Police authorities, as well as the United States Coast Guard.   The Force is also on full alert to prevent narcotics trafficking in the country as well as deterring and arresting poachers and have rendered substantial relief assistance after disasters throughout The Bahamas.
