#Bahamas, December 4, 2017 – Nassau – Some countrymen are not understanding when it comes to a recent string of error-filled or offensive statements made by Prime Minister Hubert Minnis; reacting to his explanation given on Sunday while bringing remarks at Calvary Deliverance Church on East Street South during the fifth pastoral anniversary of Bishop Elect James Newry and Elder Queenie.

The Prime Minister, in a sorrowful tone said he is only human and that God knows that he makes mistakes.   He admitted to getting defensive, saying we all do and that he tries to get service to the people of The Bahamas right.   The humbling moment followed weeks of criticisms over comments to media, decisions on policy, flip flopping on issues like Baha Mar and MPs pay hike and reaction to changes in the portfolio of Minister of Environment, Ramould Ferreria.

In the Ferreria matter, the Prime Minister called a shift of work from the minister to his portfolio ‘fake news’ when it was not; the information had actually been Gazetted.   Later it was explained that it was wrongly placed in the Gazette, that Cabinet had only shifted one item from the Minister to PM Dr Minnis and that the Prime Minister was unaware of the error in the Gazette when he called the info ‘fake news’.

While some commenting on the media reports empathize with the pressure and accept the PMs explanations, others say he and all ministers need to improve their relationship with media and not open their mouths until they are fully and accurately informed on the issues at hand.
