Defence Force Apprehends Foreign Nationals from 5 different countries in New Providence

#Bahamas, December 26, 2017 – Nassau – A total 14 foreign nationals from 5 countries were apprehended for illegal entry into The Bahamas on Tuesday morning by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force’s Harbour Patrol Unit.

While on routine patrol after 5 a. m., HMBS P-40 spotted a 36-ft Sun Dancer Cabin Cruiser named “Code Blue” near Montague Beach.   After conducting a routine boarding and search of the vessel, it was discovered that the 14 individuals onboard did not possess the necessary documents to enter the country.

The vessel and its crew were subsequently taken into custody by the Defence Force.   The foreigners, consisting of 9 Ecuadorians, 1 Columbian, 1 Dominican, 1 Jamaican and 1 American nationals, were later handed over to Police and Immigration officials for further investigation.

The Defence Force was also successful in apprehending 87 Haitian nationals aboard a wooden sloop 30 mile southwest of Great Inagua on Saturday past.   This apprehension was made by HMBS LEON SMITH.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force remains resolute in protecting the territorial waters of The Bahamas as it Guards our Heritage.
