Break Out attempt at TCI Detention Center

#TurksandCaicos, December 6, 2017 – Providenciales – Fast acting, quick thinking security guards at the South Dock Road Detention Center foiled an attempt at escape late Monday night just before 11 o’clock; but they were held in a hostage type situation until Police showed up.

Some detainees, including a dozen Dominican poachers and Haitian migrants tried to trick and overpower two guards but failed and, Magnetic Media understands, the Police Tactical Unit was called in to de-escalate the drama.

A detainee pretended to be ‘sick’ and when the guards entered the upper floor of the center, they were ‘rushed’ by detainees who tried to bolt out of the open door.   The security men, who are said to be Turks and Caicos Islanders fought the group back and yelled for the lower floor door to be secured; it was and the migrants were unable to break out but the guards were held hostage.

Police Tactical swooped in and was able to rescue the guards and restore order.   At the time 11 Dominicans, six Haitians including three women are being held at the Detention Center.
