#TurksandCaicos, November 27, 2017 – Providenciales – A wrong message given to passengers had landed WestJet airline into trouble with Canadians who’s trips to Turks and Caicos were cancelled following the hurricanes. WestJet is the only commercial airline which has not yet resumed flights to Provo, according to the Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority and passengers were told that it was because the airport was unable to accept their aircraft.
The report was labeled as ‘untrue’ by the TCIAA when customers and Canadian media, CBC contacted them. In fact, in a CBC news report, Lavern Reynolds, Terminal and Marketing Manager of the TCIAA is quoted saying, “I don’t know why WestJet would still be using that as an excuse when it’s not based on fact.”
Well now WestJet has confessed that it issued a wrong message to passengers and that the actual reason it will not resume flights to Turks and Caicos until December is because Beaches Resort and Club Med remain closed until then. The passengers whose flights were cancelled did receive an initial refund, but following the report on CBC, received more money because re-booking flights on Air Canada were said to be more expensive.
Still the passenger told CBC News that she was disappointed that it took so much to get that additional money and truthful explanation from WestJet, she called WestJet’s handling of the situation – where there had been complaints – strange.
