#TurksandCaicos, November 22, 2017 – Providenciales – The Immigration Department workers appears to have a new advocate in Mark Fulford, he yesterday outlined what he called nine flawed working conditions for officers who on November 5 staged a sick out in protest of reported overdue overtime pay.    Fulford, an attorney and candidate for the PNP in the North and Middle Caicos electoral district race cited that the Immigration Officers are giving too much, to be getting such low salaries and on top of that, have to wait for outstanding overtime pay.

Fulford is calling on the PDM Administration to bring the ‘change’…“Was this the private sector, the Government would have had the Labour Department shut down such a company responsible for such degrading and demoralizing treatment of its employees.   Well, it is time for the “Change” Minister of Immigration, to change these 9 flawed working conditions for the staff in his Ministry.   The people elected you because they wanted to see change, so be the change you promised these Officers you would be.”

Fulford said salaries are outpaced by inflation, 45%; that Immigration Officers should have a staff bathroom, currently they have to sometimes wait in line at the airport facility with passengers; the officers have to pay for airport parking of their vehicles, that the chairs within which they sit to work are in need of professional cleaning and new upholstery, that they have insufficient uniforms – two for a six day work week he said and that at the office, the septic tank is leaking and the office is often not cleaned.

Magnetic Media has asked repeatedly for an update on the situation with the Immigration Officers, with no reply.    The Civil Servants Association also remains mute on the matter.   Fulford concluded with:  “Do the right thing and Pay the Outstanding and earned double-time for holidays.
