#TurksandCaicos, November 7, 2017 – Providenciales – The SNAP Center (Special Needs Association of Providenciales) in Providenciales provides intellectual and life skills opportunities for children and young persons with disabilities between the ages of 4-24 years.

The SNAP Center was damaged by the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria and has subsequently been closed for repairs.   The Ministry appreciates the commitment of corporate partners such as the Seven Stars Community Foundation who have completed refurbishment to the building including the roof, ceilings and interior walls in addition to the surrounding environment prior to the return of students.

The SNAP Center was formally adopted by the Seven Stars Community Foundation in 2016 and even prior to this it has worked closely with the Foundation to help provide a stimulating learning environment for its students.

Ms. Yolander Forbes, Human Resources Director at Seven Stars Resorts & Spa, stated that her team is 100% percent committed to the SNAP Center, ensuring students are given the opportunity along with the necessary adaptive equipment.   She also applauded the staff and teachers for their extraordinary dedication and commitment to their students.

The Ministry also wishes to thank the Public Works Department and Environmental Health Department for their assistance in ensuring that the center was ready to receive students.

The Director of Special Needs, Ms. Betty-Ann Been stated; “It has been rewarding to see the completion of the repairs and the return of the students to classes.”   She also thanked the parents of the SNAP Center students for their patience while the works to the school were being completed. She further encouraged other parents to visit the school where so much is being accomplished.

Let us remember that “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence” Helen Keller.
