Fights at Clement Howell High out of hand, Police called in

#TurksandCaicos, November 21, 2017 – Providenciales – A rash of violence at the country’s largest public school is sparking outrage as yesterday a fight of some kind at the institution took a dangerous turn.   Reports to Magnetic Media were that ambulance had to be called to the school after what one person described as a riot broke out at Clement Howell High in Blue Hills.  Other reports are that the Police Force Tactical Unit was brought in to subdue the violence and that in the end as many as 19 were arrested.   It is less clear if there were any injuries of students or teachers or anyone.

When Magnetic Media arrived at the scene, emotions were still high but the danger was obviously abated; it was tense.  Yet in the reported ongoing problems at the school, which have erupted since the start of the new academic year, there has been no official comment – not from the PTA, not from the Civil Servants Association, not from Parents and children themselves, not from the Opposition or Members of Parliament, not from Police and not even from the Ministry of Education, charged with the care, education and safety of the students – has spoken out about the string of fights.

Despite this deafening silence, what we can say for certain is that there is a problem at Clement Howell High, and something must be done about it … now.   We did reach out to the Ministry of Education for a report on the situation, though we were promised to get a statement, there was nothing up to news production time.
