#Bahamas, November 1, 2017 – Nassau – The Director of Local Government Mr. Cephas Cooper has called for elections to be conducted in six polling divisions where vacancies existed subsequent to Local Government Elections held in June of this year. These elections will take place in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Act Section 18 (1) (b) and the powers conferred upon the Minister of Local Government, to have these positions filled by elected members. These vacancies are currently being filled by appointees made by Minister of Transport and Local Government the Honorable Frankie Campbell to fully complement the required membership for these committees to function until such time as a further round of elections is held.
In this regard, the Governor General of The Bahamas Her Excellency Dame Marguerite Pindling will sign four writs of Election for the respective Polling Divisions, on Wednesday 1st November 2017, so that Electoral Processes will commence to fill these vacancies. Further, an election was also scheduled for the Ragged Island District. This election is being deferred to a later time due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma.
Nomination Day is scheduled for Thursday 16th November 2017.
Following is the list of locations in the Family Islands and the required number of elected members needed to fill the vacancies:
