#Bahamas, November 2, 2017 – Nassau  – The Minnis Administration intends to enhance the effective freedoms, liberties and rights of all citizens through a system of good governance.  Delivering his contribution in the House of Assembly Thursday (November 2, 2017), Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Hubert A. Minnis said advancing human dignity and social justice are at the heart of his Administration’s agenda for transformation and reform.

Prime Minister Minnis said these principles have guided the government’s vision and commitment to job and wealth creation, combating crime and other threats to citizen-safety and national security and deepening democracy and transforming government.

“Good governance requires a balance of values and the instruments used to protect the rights of citizens and the demands of national security and safeguarding citizens from various threats,” Prime Minister Minnis said.

“These threats include criminal gangs, drug traffickers, cyber and other threats. Even as the Government seeks to target the nefarious acts of criminals using various technologies, we are committed to removing the unnecessary interference of elected officials in criminal prosecutions.

“Both of these measures are intended to protect citizens. Such protection is a central function of government. Citizens must be protected from those who would use communications technologies to harm fellow citizens and residents even as we vigorously protect the privacy of citizens and residents.   A mature and effective democracy requires such balance,” Prime Minister Minnis added.
