Royal Bahamas Police Force Update for October 17th, 2017

#Bahamas, October 17, 2017 – Nassau –

POLICE NAB SUSPECT IN LATEST MURDER, SEVERAL OTHERS BEING SOUGHT

Police are pleased to report that a male suspect is now in custody in connection with the country’s latest murder, meanwhile police are seeking the whereabouts of several other suspects wanted in connection with this and several other murders that occurred in the area over the past months.

The latest murder occurred shortly after 6:00pm on Monday 16th October 2017.   A man standing in front of a home at Ida Street, when two men in a Honda vehicle shot him before speeding off.   The victim was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police immediately launched an island-wide manhunt for the suspects that led to the arrest of one of the suspects.   The other suspect along with several other suspects is being sought in connection with this and several other murders in the area that occurred over the past months.

Police have just today issued several wanted posters for the capture of some of these dangerous suspects.

POLICE URGE PUBLIC TO SETTLE CONFLICTS AMICABLY

In light of the recent incidents in which individuals have lost their lives because of unresolved conflicts and disagreements, Police are urging members of the public in particular our young men to find amicable ways to settle their conflicts.

Police also are advising members of the public that there are various avenues by which persons can resolve disputes without resorting to violence, such as, visits with their pastors, private counseling or talking to a friend.

Finally, police is appealing to the public to report disputes to the Police 919 or 911 emergency numbers or their local Police Stations so that action can be taken to prevent repeat of lost of lives through violence.

CRIME PREVENTION TIP OF THE WEEK – If a crime occurs – report it!

Everyone should consider it his/her responsibility to report crime. Many criminals target favorite areas and have predictable methods of operation. When you report all the facts about a crime, it helps the police assign officers in the places where crimes are occurring or where they are most likely to occur. If you don’t report crime, this allows the criminal to continue to operate without interference.

In many cases, it is the information provided by victims and witnesses that leads to the arrest of a criminal. So tell the police as much as you can; no fact is too trivial.  The police need the eyes and ears of all citizens.
