Jamaica marks World Mental Health Day, Oct 10

#Jamaica, October 10, 2017 – Kingston – World Mental Health Day is Tuesday October 10 and Governor General of Jamaica, His Excellency Most Hon Sir Patrick Allen has proclaimed it to be so for Jamaica under the theme:  Mental Health in the Workplace.   Activities to mark the day started since Sunday and the GG urged Jamaicans to participate citing statistics which reveal, that one in every four people around the world will experience mental health problems at one time or another.

The Governor General said the activities are designed to increase knowledge of the issues and interventions to promote and protect mental health in the workplace.    GG Allen explained that this effort should improve access to employee Assistance programmes to address the stigma of mental illness.  Stress and Depression were identified as the leading mental health issues on the job; among the goals is for employers to be more caring and for there to be greater productivity due to a healthier mental state of employees.
