#TurksandCaicos, October 11, 2017 – Providenciales – The Caribbean seems to have won an important round against the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which is the ring leader in carrying potentially deadly viruses like #Zika and now vigorous public awareness campaigns have received extra support from the US Centers for Disease Control through the regional health agency.
The Caribbean Public Health Agency or CARPHA shared in a media release on Tuesday that, “Two years after the first outbreak of Zika in the Caribbean, the invasion of this mosquito-borne virus has reduced significantly. While health officials have reported a decrease in the number of suspected and confirmed cases, it is important to note that the virus is still present within our communities.”
#CARPHA is encouraging health agencies and departments within the region, not to let up. Information is being sourced to Caribbean countries to counter the spread of Zika or Chikungunya or Denge or Yellow Fever and thanks to funding from the CDC.
CARPHA explains, it “…has created an innovative information toolkit, which includes animated videos, posters and answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs). The toolkit is specially packaged to meet the needs of a diverse audience, which include public health professionals and clinicians, pregnant women, and children.” You can access the information kit at missionmosquito.carpha.org.
