Turks and Caicos, September 11, 2017 – Providenciales – The Providenciales Airport is to be reopened today at 11:00 AM.

The airport, which was closed to the public- only offering emergency services- is to be fully operational today in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

The tourism district of Grace Bay was resilient and stood strong in the face of the Category 5 Storm which produced extreme winds, heavy rainfall and intense storm surge across the islands.   Reports have indicated localized flooding, and damages to roofs, some property and landscape damage, and loss of electricity were experienced as a result of the Hurricane.   Fortunately, there have been no reports of loss of life.

Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME) is currently conducting assessments throughout the island and working with government and local relief agencies to ensure that other services are returned to normal as soon as possible.
