#Bahamas, September 28, 2017 – Nassau – There is a plan for flooding on the country’s most famous street to be no more; #BayStreet on September 12 was drowning and so was easy commuting, business as usual and the beauty of the waterfront strip, which lines the northern coast of Nassau.    During House of Assembly on Monday, Minister of Public Works Desmond Bannister announced that there are several initiatives underway to mitigate flooding and they include water jetting the laterals, to clear them from leaves and other debris.

There will also be new laterals installed and changes are likely for pipe systems by the various utility companies.    Minister Bannister said there was flooding on West Bay Street near the Pointe development, a continuous problem explained the Minister because of curry being placed over a manhole at the site.

Nearly $40,000 has been spent to clear laterals in the area.   Another problem is restriction of the water flow, which leads to a backup in the system in the area of Dowdeswell Street and Victoria Avenue.  Compounding the problem on that day, storm surge and intense, excessive rainfall, reported Minister Bannister on Monday.
