Turks and Caicos, September 12, 2017 – Providenciales – Minister of Tourism, Hon. Ralph Higgs gave an update on the state of Tourism and the Tourism industry post-Hurricane Irma.

“We were happy that the tourism infrastructure, the hotels have sustained very little damage and we suspect that the vast majority of them will be operational in very short order.” He promised.

The Tourism Minister also reiterated that the airport is now opened and commercial flights have resumed. Since the passing of Irma, the TCI has already had tourists show an interest of immediately visiting the island to vacation. While Mr. Higgs welcomes the prospect of guests to the island, he is also urging prospective visitors to consider the current condition of some parts of Turks and Caicos that have had extensive damage done to buildings and landscape. “It is obviously not business as usual”, he said.

He also gave an update on the 2000+ visitors that were on the island during Hurricane Irma. “They all weathered the storm as we did, with some challenges and stress from the weather. Flights have resumes so those persons will leave today or tomorrow. We certainly rolled out all of the hospitality to all our guests to ensure their safety and the best hospitality during those circumstances.”
