CUSTOMS (IMPORT DUTY EXEMPTION) ORDER 2017

 (Legal Notice of 2017)

MADE by the Minister of Finance under section 70(1)(c) of the Customs Ordinance.

Citation and commencement

  1. This Order may be cited as the Customs (Import Duty Exemption) Order 2017 and shall come into operation on 14th September 2017 and expire on 31th October 2017.

Import duty exemption

  1. (1) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in the Customs Tariff (General) Order, import duty shall not be payable in respect of goods of any description specified in the Schedule imported into the Islands during the period specified in paragraph 1.

(2) For the avoidance of doubt, food items and building materials that are zero rated may be imported as is usual.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order exempt certain goods from the payment of customs duties in order to mitigate the effects of hurricane Irma on persons residing in the Islands and to assist in their recovery.  For the avoidance of doubt, food items and building materials that are zero rated may be imported as is usual.
