CARICOM and UK reach out to Bahamas PM

#Bahamas, September 11, 2017 – Nassau – #CARICOM and the United Kingdom have already expressed their support for recovering of countries within the region devastated by last week’s Hurricane Irma.    The Bahamas was a prominent part of a high level teleconference this weekend as CARICOM member states called an emergency meeting via telephone to discuss the impact of Hurricane Irma on the region.

Joining PM Hubert Minnis in that session on Saturday were Bahamas Cabinet Ministers Dionisio D’Aguilar, Darren Henfield, Lanisha Rolle, Dion Foulkes and #NEMA Director, Stephen Russell.   The topic was largely on what assistance can be given to see the nations so hard hit by the storm rebound.

Also on Saturday, PM Minnis received a call from the Rt Hon Lord Ahmad, the Minister of State for the  Commonwealth and United Nations for the UK who expressed the concern and pleded support.    Specifically mentioned by the British Government representative were British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Turks and Caicos – which are also UK overseas territories.

The Bahamas PM received commendation for its air evacuation and for the bi partisan support the evac received.
