Bahamas, September 6th, 2017 – Nassau – At present, emergency evacuation flights via the Bahamasair are being carried out to transport residents from Inagua to Nassau, after Prime Minister Minnis made the emergency order last night.
Both Minnis and opposition leader Phillip Brave Davis visited the Lynden Pindling International Airport to greet residents as they arrived, describing the current Hurricane Irma preparations as “beyond politics”. Minnis then comforted residents by saying, “always remember we are one family. We are together. We will fight this storm together and we will have you back as soon as possible but while you are here, you are brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, and you will be treated according.”
Davis also added, “When it comes down to safety, when it comes down to natural disaster, we should all be one.”
Managing Director of Bahamasair, Tracy Cooper also confirmed that the airline will continue to assist the government and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) with evacuations from Islands in the Southern Bahamas ahead of Hurricane Irma. Flights from Mayaguana, Crooked Island, Acklins, Long Cay and Ragged Island are also expected to come in.
