#TurksandCaicos, August 17, 2017 – Providenciales – With an active Atlantic Basin as we into the busy part of the Hurricane Season, there is movement from the very top to get the country ready for a storm.   The Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies has already been consulted by the Premier on state readiness.

The #DDME is also issuing alerts so that the public can see what systems are doing out there in the Atlantic.    Hurricane Gert, which gained strength in waters near our island chain is creating dangerous rip currents, but well out of our area in waters off Canada now.    There are  three tropical waves being monitored, one is forecast to swing along the eastern side of the TCI and The Bahamas.

While forecasts say conditions are not favorable for development as the days progress, there is a chance for strengthening and even a rain event could bring unwanted trouble to the archipelago.    It is advised that as you prepare for Back to School, to purchase the needed items in the event of a storm.
