#TurksandCaicos, August 31, 2017 – Providenciales – Three storeys tall, over 20,000 square feet, build at just under $10.8 million dollars and completed on time and on budget in 20 months; among the vital statistics of the newly opened FortisTCI Operations and Engineering Center.    A grand Grand Opening event was held just outside of the new building on Wednesday and in country for the ceremony were a slew of Fortis international and regional executives including Barry Perry, CEO of Fortis Inc in Canada.

“Fortis is ready for what’s ahead, we’ll integrate new technologies and infrastructure and find ways of cleaner energy solutions across our territories.   We will continue to focus on our people by investing in them, we’ll focus on our customers and customer service delivery and of course we will continue to be good stewards of the community and give back.”

There was prayer for the new structure which is home to the engineering team, environmental health and safety team, Transmission and Distribution, Energy Production administration, the new Systems Control Room and site services.    A tour revealed training facility with smart boards, elevator, board rooms, domestic facilities, a truly state of the art set up for the multi-purpose building which will function around the clock; a significant investment which #FortisTCI says is in anticipation of a forecast 3% annual growth for the Turks and Caicos over the next five years.

Eddinton Powell, FortisTCI CEO was beaming.

“This company has invested approximately $340 million dollars in capital infrastructure over the past eleven years.    Most of that aggregate investment was made directly in the local economy.  Let us conservatively estimate that  40% of that investment was paid for goods and services locally, that would represent some $130 million dollars injected into TCI economy by this company.”

Minister of Infrastructure, Hon Goldray Ewing was unable to attend the opening but his greeting was presented by VP of Finance for FortisTCI, Ruth Forbes.

“This and previous ingenuities displayed by FortisTCI not only inadvertently strengthens the economy but builds domestic capacity and contribute to the initiative of putting our society on a more prosperous and sustainable path.”

The Operations and Engineering Center on Energy Street is designed for FortisTCI staff, customers will continue to be served at the main headquarters on Leeward Highway.
