Mainly Haitians flock to TCI Immigration after D-Day

#TurksandCaicos, August 16, 2017 – Providenciales – The largest migrant population in the Turks and Caicos is most impacted by the new, stringent measures being taken by the Ministry of Border Control and Employment in what is being dubbed a crackdown.    Yesterday Haitians flocked to both the Providenciales and Grand Turk offices of the ministry in last minute, desperate attempts to appeal for legal status which would allow them to remain in the country.

A task force of #Immigration and Police took to streets Tuesday, requesting of suspected migrant workers to see documents to verify that they were indeed legally employed within the TCI.    The measure to regularize all expatriate workers noticeably reduced the bustle in both Provo and Grand Turk, as there were less people on the streets, less people turning up for work and less illegal jitneys operating.

The ‘quietness’ as it was described is evidence that the problem of illegal immigrants living and working gainfully in the TCI is a major problem.
