Bahamas, August 2, 2017 – Nassau –
The Public Relations Intern at the Bahamas Telecommunications Company’s (BTC), Mr. Matthew Moxey, presented the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Rangers Youth Program with a cheque in support of the Rangers Summer Leadership Camp. Lieutenant Delvonne Duncombe, Director, of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Rangers program gratefully received the donation on behalf of Commander Defence Force, Commodore Tellis Bethel, and the Rangers youth program.
The intensive 3-week summer program was designed to develop character and leadership skills among 82 selected high school students who are currently enrolled in the Rangers programme. The training curriculum covers a variation of physical fitness and professional subjects that are taught to Defence Force recruits. In addition, the training also served as a recruiting tool for individuals aspiring to become future leaders as cadet officers within the Rangers programme. Some of the twenty-two disciplines offered includes Navigation, Firefighting, Ship Husbandry, Communications, Leadership, Rules of the Road and First Aid. The exciting program also includes music classes for Rangers Band members, tours, fitness training and field training exercises.
The Defence Force Rangers Program consists of over 1,000 members within approximately 30 schools in New Providence, Grand Bahama, Abaco, the Berry Islands, and North Andros. Plans are currently being developed to convert the Rangers Program into the Rangers National Youth Service Program. The program will end this week Friday.
Facilities for the camp were made available by The Bahamas Government’s Program S.U.R.E. (Success Ultimately Reassures Everybody) on Gladstone Road and will end next week.
