Turks and Caicos, July 5, 2017 – Providenciales – The motoring public on the Island of Providenciales is advised that the access to windward road or Glass shack and Menzies corner as it is commonly called and to Leeward Highway turning right from the same road is closed. Motorist will be able to make a left turn coming out of Windward Street onto Leeward Highway and make a left turn into Windward Street off of Leeward Highway.
The decision to close off this access was taken following intense discussions between various Government agencies as to the best course of action to take to manage the flow of traffic at this junction of the Leeward Highway. Serious concerns arose as a result of the number of accidents that occurred on Leeward Highway and Windward Street which resulted in fatalities, extensive damage to property and grievous bodily injury. Previous attempts to manage traffic at this junction proved futile as motorist have not been adhering to signs erected, advising of a left turn only resulting accidents continuing to occur.
Access to the glass shack area can now be gained at the roundabout at First Caribbean and industrial park road or motorist may travel to the Suzie Turn roundabout, make a right at the roundabout, travel down to Windward Street and make a left turn. Coming out of Glass Shack and getting onto Leeward Highway, traveling in easterly direction can be access through Paradise Road onto Discovery Bay exiting at the Junction next to Shell Gas station.
The Road Safety department along with the other Government agencies with responsibility for Traffic management take this opportunity to appeal to the motoring public to pay strict attention to the rules of the road and the signs that are erected.
