Illegal immigrants make landfall

Turks and Caicos, July 26, 2017 – Providenciales – Around 11:31pm on Monday 24th July 2017, the Coastal Radar Station operator contacted central after a suspected illegal sloop was detected at 3.3 miles from North West Point.

Police and Immigration Officials were dispatched to the area, but by the time they arrived persons had already off the wooden blue boat and it was partially sank. Officers continue to make checks between Malcolm’s Beach and North West Point where several persons were seen and fled into the bushes. One female was apprehended and detained and is being processed by immigration.

A continued search is presently ongoing in the areas mentioned above.

The communities of the Turks and Caicos Islands are encouraged to contact law enforcement with any information concerning the whereabouts of any illegal migrants or on pending sloop arrivals.
