Edwin Astwood Gives Update on Agriculture and School Nutrition Policies

Turks and Caicos, July 26, 2017 – Providenciales – Minister of Health, Hon. Edwin Astwood, during his Ministerial Statement, advised on the progress made towards the realization of a progressive and modern agricultural policy to encourage the development of agriculture in the Islands. The Policy would aim to increase production, raise standards, improve food security and maintain and safeguard the environment.

The Treatment Abroad Policy is being reviewed to correct the inadequacies identified. He announced that for the first six months of this year, a total of 805 persons have been referred overseas at a cost of $9.7m. The School Nutrition Policy set to be introduced soon will seek to better the eating habits of our children and to position them for a healthier adulthood.
