Turks and Caicos, July 19, 2017 – Providenciales – Airports with direct flights to the United States are under strict instructions from the TSA to enact heavier scrutiny at security check points, this naturally includes the Turks and Caicos. In The Bahamas, this has led officials there to strongly advise passengers to arrive even earlier for their flights, some three hours and still it caused major delays at the international airport in Nassau on Tuesday.
It is said the measures are to avoid laptops being banned on all flights into the US altogether. Flights to the US or UK from ten countries including Egypt and Qatar ban laptops on airplanes. The heavier TSA required scrutiny includes enhancing overall passenger screening, conducting heightened screening of personal electronic devices, increasing security protocols around aircraft and in passenger areas and expanding canine screening among other things.
The new TSA measures would affect 325,000 airline passengers on about 2,000 commercial flights arriving daily in the United States, on 180 airlines from 280 airports in 105 countries.
