Turks and Caicos, July 7th 2017 – Salt Cay – Caicos Express Airways has announced the suspension of service into Salt Cay effective today. The announcement came via a press release and explained that the airlines’ Aerodrome certificate, which expired on June 26th was not renewed by the Caicos Islands Civil Aviation Authorities.

Caicos Express Airways revealed, “The Turks and Caicos Islands Civil Aviation Authority (TCICAA) decision not to renew the certificate is due to long term safety concerns relating to the condition of the runway surface and associate areas.”

For years the depreciating condition of the airport’s runway has been of grave concern, yet no repairs were done. There has also been public outcry over allegations of Caicos Express receiving government subsidy despite canceling the route. As a result, the Civil Aviation Authority has made the decision to restrict public transport operation into Salt Cay’s aerodrome.

The Turks and Caicos Islands Aviation Authority is yet to make a statement on the issue.
