Turks and Caicos, June 15, 2017 – Providenciales – Renewable energy programs spearheaded by FortisTCI are well underway this month and first to participate in the project under FortisTCI are Mills Institute in Juba Sound and Atlantic Stone, on South Dock Road. FortisTCI, had announced that this month it would commission the two projects to support its Utility Owned Renewal Energy program.
FortisTCI, in a media release said it is working in ways to deal with the growing demand for electricity. Solar panels are taking up roof space at both sites already. Additionally,by the end of 2018 a new Wartsilia engine will be on island, a $14M investment which is expected to employ 30 to 40 people during the installation.
FortisTCI CEO, Eddinton Powell explained, “Our current generation expansion plans will take us through the year 2020. Also, this round of generation expansion takes into account our Integrated Resources Plans (IRP) for the integration of renewable energy into the grid,particularly solar, through our renewable energy programs consisting of Customer Owned Renewable Energy (CORE) and Utility Owned Renewable Energy(UORE).”
Since signing the Rocky Mountain Institute Carbon War Room initiative, the power company says it is committed to seeing, with the help of participating consumers, 1.4MW of renewable energy added to the grid by end of 2017. Customers can now install their own solar system and connect to the FortisTCI grid by participating in this CORE program.
