RTCI Police Investigating Two Cases of Aggravated Robbery

Turks and Caicos, June 23, 2017 – Providenciales – Detectives of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force are investigating a number of incidents that occurred this morning (Friday 23rd June 2017) on Providenciales.

Around 1:43 am, Police responded to a report of a shooting in the Grace Bay area of Providenciales. It was established that a man, who is a a visitor to the Turks and Caicos Islands had been shot and is currently at the Cheshire Hall Medical Center where he was being treated for a wound in the abdominal area.

Also, around 4:34am, the police responded to the Blue Hills area of Providenciales where a victim told officers that while waiting for a ride he was approached by two unknown males with a silver revolver who took his phone and gun butt in the head causing an injury. He was taken to the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre for treatment.

The Police are treating both incidents as a robbery and the matters are under investigation. Whilst at this stage no one has been arrested in connection with this offence, active enquiries are being followed up to identified those responsible.

Acting Commissioner of Police Trevor Botting said, ‘The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force are committed to tackling crime and this week have arrested and charged a number of people for serious offences including robbery, burglary and handling stolen goods. Of course we cannot do this alone and we need the community to share what they know about the offences that are causing harm to the local community and those who visit the Islands.
