Bahamas, June 1st 2017: Plans for the Education Sector outlined in the 2017/2018 Budget Communication, an allocation of $2M for electronic notepads for preschools. DPM and Finance Minister, Peter Turnquest says it’s part of “effectively equipping our young people to meet the needs of the 21st century economy”, by “putting technology within the hands of every student”. The announcement coincides with the Speech from the Throne, which highlighted government’s plans to make pre-school learning for all two and a half year olds mandatory.

The DPM says investments will be made in technical and vocational training. Also on the cards for the Education sector include training and development of teachers and educational professionals as well as infrastructure in the education sector. The minister highlighted the important role the private sector in education and training continues to play, giving commitments to facilitate its contributions in this area.

It’s expected that the Prime Minister and the Education Minister, will expand on the exact amount that will be used in the Education Sector in this fiscal year.
