Turks and Caicos, June 14, 2017 – Providenciales – The PNP Opposition Appointed member continues to lambaste the government on its handling of his motion to debate a bill to lead to the implementation of hotel workers getting 100% of service charges collected by hospitality companies. Royal Robinson, following a failure of his motion to get to second reading stage in the House of Assembly again accused Premier and Finance Minister, Sharlene Robinson of back tracking on her promise to get all of the service charges to workers.
He said, “…the Premier, engineered the killing of the Service Charges Amendment Bill at the second reading stage. The hospitality workers must know that this came at the bidding of the hotel owners, in whose pockets it has been alleged that the Premier and her colleagues are in.”
However, the PDM administration says the bill as presented by Royal Robinson does not consider some employees’ unique arrangements with their employers and as it is, will not do the industry justice. This stance was explained in a public meeting in Provo hosted last week by the PDM Government, where Premier Robinson promised that her administration would see the bill through after more consultation to get it right.
The Finance Minister in that meeting said they originally brought the bill when their party was in Opposition and that by Christmas, hospitality workers would see the extra money in their paychecks.
