NIB Takes Nine to Court for Nonpayment of Contributions

Turks and Caicos, June 15, 2017 Providenciales – Nearly $500,000 in NIB contributions were ordered to be paid in recent appearances at court. On Wednesday June 14, Legal Assistance John Ewing Jr. appeared in the Providenciales Magistrate‘s Court on the behalf of the National Insurance Board (NIS).

A total of six company representatives in TCI appeared in Court on June 14 for legal cases of actions including failing to pay NIS contributions, additional charges to customers as an employer, obstructing Compliance Inspectors as well as conviction matters and levying charges. The six companies has a total of $175,888.36 in charges when appeared before the Court. All six legal matters were adjourned for mention at dates later this year.

Meanwhile, three personal matters were were in the Magistrates’ Court #1, Providenciales on June 1. The issues related to failing to pay national insurance contributions and additional charges as an employer and self-employed person. The three charges had a grand total of US $251,344.90 and defendants were bound to return to court on adjourned dates later this year.
