Turks and Caicos, June 1, 2017 – ProvidencialesNot true said our sources about a news story making social media rounds about trouble and a sick out at the National Health Insurance Board.    The report claimed that staff did not show up for work, that the returned CEO was a major problem and that the Premier was disregarding issues at the Board, leaving matters unresolved.

However, in a brief statement to Magnetic Media, Premier and Finance Minister, Sharlene Robinson called the report mischievous, adding that Minister of Health, Edwin Astwood and his Board have her full support.

Minister Astwood reported to the Premier that the Facebook post was not true and that the process to resolve issues at the once embattled NHIB, are progressing.

In 2016, NHIB staff staged sick outs, its CEO was put on leave, financial deficiencies were to the tune of over $2M and there had been a Cabinet mandate to review its Operations.

Since then, recommendations of the Chief Internal Auditor were heard and are being carried out, says Cabinet from mid-May.
