New Ethics Code for Police now in force

Turks and Caicos, June 6th 2017: Police officers now have a new code of ethics within which to abide, and it applies to behavior while both on and off duty. The new code of ethics rolled out by the Police service aims at serving as a guide to officers and the policing profession.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Trevor Botting revealed the ethical guidebook on Monday.

The move comes after Police Commissioner, James Smith called on officers to sign on to the code of ethics , and made the “do your 100 percent, live by the rules, uphold the law, or find something else to do” statement last month.

The new code of ethics says all ranks and support staff must work to meet the principles and standards of professional behavior that are set out in the code to guide their behavior when both on and off duty.

Deputy Commissioner Botting says, “Being part of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force carries great responsibility in ensuring the safety and security of the islands and its communities. It is right that we all as police officers work to the highest possible standards as we do this in providing a service to those who live, work and visit the Turks and Caicos Islands”.
