Chef Boyardee and other brands pulled from shelves, TCI included

Turks and Caicos, June 28, 2017 – Providenciales – Chef Boyardee, the popular canned spaghetti and meatballs brand is among a list of products that have been pulled from shelves in stores and supermarkets across the TCI after the brand company, Conagra Brands, Inc. announced a worldwide recall.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that the brand is recalling approximately 717,338 pounds of spaghetti and meatball products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.

The products contain milk, a known allergen which is not declared on the product label. The spaghetti and meatball products were produced on Jan. 5, 2017 and Jan. 12, 2017 and the Chef BOYARDEE products are among those being recalled.

The problem was discovered on June 6, 2017, when the company received notification from an ingredient supplier that the bread crumbs the company received and used in the recalled products potentially contained undeclared milk. The other brands include Libby’s, Del Pino’s, Hy-Top, Food Hold, Essential EVERYDAY and Food Club– all spaghetti and meatball products. 

The FSIS has urged consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them.
