Turks and Caicos, May 3, 2017 – Providenciales – After a 6-day trial, both Jamal Thompson Missick and his younger brother Paul Missick were convicted guilty as charged. In July 2016, the brothers were arrested and charged after they entered a hotel room at Ocean Club East Hotel in Gracebay and attempted to rob the tourist occupants of their money, credits cards, jewelry and other expensive items. Jamal Missick managed to escape but left his brother behind. Paul Missick was then beaten and subdued by one of the guests in the room then handed over to the police.
A jury comprising of 7 members in the Providenciales Supreme Court gave the verdicts of guilty on the charge of burglary for both brothers. Paul Missick had been previously charged with aggravated burglary and handling stolen goods in a separate incident which occurred in 2012. The two will now appear before the court on May 30th2017 for a sentencing hearing.
Also in the Supreme Court, the retrial of Colin Delancy Jr. commenced before Justice Joan Joyner and a Jury on May 1st 2017. Delancy Jr was charged with manslaughter, robbery, conspiracy to rob and possession of firearm with intent for killing Dominican national, Santa Suarez Ramirez and the robbery of Sailing Paradise Restaurant in Blue Hills when Ramirez worked as a bartender. The incident occurred on July 20th 2011. In August 2013, Delancy Jr. was sentenced to a total of 17 years in jail. His re-trial continues for the next two weeks.
