Ministry of Grand Bahama to fall under Prime Minister’s Office

Bahamas, May 19th 2017 – Nassau –  Newly elected Grand Bahama Minister, Kwasi Thompson says the Ministry of Grand Bahama, will now be incorporated into the Office of the Prime Minister.   The minister speaking at a press conference after he was briefed on the happenings of his ministry says this was necessary as it will serve “as more beneficial to the work performed in Grand Bahama.

While he underscored the importance of Grand Bahama to the Prime Minister, he says bringing it under the Office of the Prime Minister will assist in ensuring smoother and more effective processing of major investments for Grand Bahama.

As a result, Thompson says it will allow for “quicker processing for investments and if it is done quicker, that means that more jobs would be done and be available at a more expeditious rate.”   Thompson adds that the prime minister will have greater oversight of Grand Bahama.

Meanwhile, the Grand Bahama Minister says he will commence the process of meeting with investors, vital to the economic recovery of Grand Bahama.   He pointed to the creation of private sector long term employment as a priority for his office there.

Thompson says a new budget is in the works, and will be prepared and submitted for approval within two weeks, as part of government’s plan to implement aspects of its manifesto during budget period.

Thompson was sworn in on Monday as Minister of State for Grand Bahama in the Office of the Prime Minister
