Minister of Home Affairs Supports Voluntary Firefighters Training Programme

Turks and Caicos, May 12, 2017 – ProvidencialesMinister with responsibility for the Domestic Fire Services Department, Hon. Vaden Delroy Williams, spent the evening of Wednesday, May 10th  engaging fireman who are employed at the Fire Services Department, as well as private citizens from the community who attend the facility every Wednesday night for training as voluntary firefighters.    This training is critical to having a cadre of knowledgeable persons whose skills can be utilized to assist the Fire Department, should the unfortunate event of a fire occur.    

Partially adorned in firefighting attire, Hon. Williams said “It was truly a delight for me to join the team of brave young men who understand the important role they play in protecting life and property whenever a fire occur.  More importantly, their attendance and service on a voluntary basis shows a level of commitment to society that we as a government would like to encourage. In this regard I publicly extend our appreciation to these very good and noble men through this medium. 

Fire Chief, Mr. William Carlton Jennings who has over thirty years of experience in the field, expressed his delight that the Minister demonstrated his support to the Fire Department in this way.  He also extends an invitation to any citizen who is desirous of becoming a voluntary firefighter, to join them at the training sessions on Wednesday evenings.        

The Fire Department was established in 2002 and is looking forward to the new Fire Hall that will be constructed in Providenciales during this financial year at a cost of $1.6 million dollars.
