Bahamas, May 11, 2017 – Nassau – Former Free National Movement (FNM) leader in Parliament and Long Island MP Loretta Butler-Turner has lost her constituency following yesterday’s general election. Butler-Turner ran as an independent candidate after a coup that saw Minnis removed as leader of the Opposition in the HOA.
In a message on her Facebook page after the announcement of results, Butler-Turner congratulated MP-Elect, FNM candidate Adrian Gibson who garnered 831 votes from nine polling divisions in the Long Island Constituency. Butler-Turner received 193 votes while Progressive Liberal Party candidate Glendon Rolle received 489 votes. It is not clear if this is the end of Butler-Turner’s political career.
In her concession message she said, “I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course.” Butler-Turner also thanked those who voted for her and supported the campaign saying that it was an honour and privilege to serve as MP.
