Bahamas, May 11th 2017: FNM might be the ruling party as of last night, but an official recount of the votes is currently on the way. Consultant at the Parliamentary Registration Department Harrison Thompson says this is normal as the department prepares the official results for release later this afternoon.

The FNM won some 35 seats out of 39, with PLP taking only four seats. Thompson says the removal of Perry Christie as MP from the Centerville seat marks the longest held seat lost in this year’s election. While several seats got re-elected, several seats went in the opposite direction. Some described as the ‘close-call’ seats include, Fox-Hill, in which counting continued into the night, Mical, Tall Pines, North Andros and Berry Islands.

The Parliamentary Registration Commission Department had stated the eligibility of some 181,000 voters this year, however, Thompson says so far in their count an 80 percent voter turnout was marked in 2017 polls.

The Bahamas Information Services will release the officials results by Thursday afternoon.
