Derek Turner Found Dead in Condo After Fire

Bahamas, May 22, 2017 – Cable Beach – Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was found dead in home following a fire on Saturday 20th May 2017. Reports are that the man is Derek G. Turner, an ex-pat New Zealander, who ran an investment scheme fraud operation in Australia before moving to the Bahamas.

According to reports, shortly before 9:00am, officers from the Police Fire Services received a report of a fire at a condominium building located off Cable Beach, West Bay Street. When Firefighters arrived at the location, they saw smoke emanating from a unit in the condominium. The officers used intense force to gain entry the unit and once inside they extinguish the fire. On checking the interior of the building the officers found the lifeless body of a Caucasian male lying on the floor. EMS personnel pronounced the male dead on the scene.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations are ongoing.

Mr. Turner served 87 months in prison after pleading guilty to the US government’s wire fraud charges.
