Bahamas, May 3rd 2017It might be one more week for the Perry Christie Government in office, as Bahamas goes to the polls May 10th, but that has not hindered the Prime Minister from signing deals with Cruise liner company, Carnival.

The Prime Minister signed on the dotted lines with officials from Carnival Cruise Lines for the development of a new port facility in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Prime Minister Christie says the signing represents “another phase in the development of Grand Bahama as a viable tourist center.”

Carnival Corporation President and CEO Arnold Donald remarked that it was Carnival Cruise Founder Ted Arison, who embarked on his first cruise, it was to The Bahamas. He says as a result, Bahamas remains one of the most strategic, important destinations for our company, while the prosperity of the people of The Bahamas was also important through providing experiences that continue to exceed our guests’ expectations.”

The project will be subject to a detailed public discussion process, environmental studies and permitting. Construction of the port is said to be the largest purpose-built cruise facility ever built in The Bahamas and will include a one-mile stretch of beach, food, beverage and shopping outlets, a wide array of water-based amenities and other recreational facilities. The port will also feature a pier capable of accommodating two of Carnival’s largest cruise ships simultaneously and is expected to eventually host up to one million guests annually.
